Nafiu’s Murder: Court Fixes Jan.18, for Ruling on Bail Application

A Kano Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday fixed Jan.18, for ruling on baill application filed by Dayyabu Abdullahi,and two others on the ongoing case of alleged murder of their house help, Nafiu Hafizu, 38.

Dayyabu, Adamu Muhammad and Nasidi Muhammad are standing trial on three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, concealment of fact and false information.

NAN recalls that Dayyabu’s wife (Hafsat Surajo) allegedly stabbed her house help Nafiu to death on Dec.20, 2023.

Chief Magistrate Hadiza Abdulrahman, ordered the remand of the defendants in a Correctional Center.

Abdulrahman adjourned the matter until Jan.18, for ruling on bail application

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Hafsa Adda’u-Kutama, informed the court that one Hafizu Salisu reported the matter at Zaria Road Police Division on Dec.21, 2023.

She alleged that on Dec. 20, 2023 Dayyabu (Hafsat Surajo’s husband) and the two other defendants conspired with one Haruna Adamu now at large and concealed the cause of Nafiu’s death.

“The defendants misled and gave false information to the deceased family by saying he died as a result of pile surgery”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 97, 277 and 178 of the Penal Code.

The defense counsel, Rabiu Sidi and Rabiu Abdullahi, urged the court to judiciously grant the defendants bail pursuant to section 36(5) of the 1999 Nigeria Constitution as amended and section 168 and 172 of ACJL 2019 Kano State.
