PLANE: Kano Govt. Set Aside 2 Billion to Procure Pupils Furniture in Schools

The Kano state government has said that it has set aside over two billion Naira for the procurement of pupils furnitures in primary and secondary schools in the state.

The executive Chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board Malam Yusif Kabir disclosed this while receiving delegation of foreign command wealth and development office under British high commission to Nigeria on a courtesy visit in his office in Kano on Tuesday.

The executive chairman also reassured the commitment of the Board to explore sustaining strategy of Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education (PLANE) before, during and after exist of the Programme.

In a statement issues on Tuesday by the board’s Director of Social Mobilisation, Balarabe Danlami Jazuli said the executive Chairman, though the administration of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusif, attaches high premium on Basic Education development however, the community and other relevant stakeholders have significant role to play in ensuring that quality Education is accessible to all children of school age.

“In its commitment to provided conducive learning environment, the Kano state government has set aside two billion Naira for the provision of pupils Furniture in schools, instructional material worth millions of Naira were since distributed to schools,” Yusif Kabir said.

He then called on FCDO officials to consider extension of the programme to the Eight Metropolitan Local Government areas, noting that any index used in the selection of PLANE focal Local Government in rural areas when used in urban areas the problem is the same and more due to density population.

He enumerated some challenges facing the Board which included low capacity of Teachers, Inadequate infrastructure in schools, luke warm attitude of the community and School Safeguard among others.

Yusif used the medium to appreciate contributions rendering to the State by PLANE team in terms of Teacher capacity Building, Provision instructional materials and community mobilization adding that the move has yielded good result.

Earlier the delegation team leader of Foreign Common Wealth Development Office, British High Commission Dr. Mikail Ibrahim said they were in Kano to review PLANE programme implemented from September 2023 to August 2023.

Dr. Mikail added that the exercise was to evaluate successes recorded, challenges and ways forward then pointed out that the visit was not to witch hunt anyone but rather to have comprehensive outcome of the programme.
