The Kano state hospital management board has assured the general public that the lost glory of Sheik Muhammad Jidda hospital will be restored.
The Executive Secretary of the Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda stated this during midnight supervision of the facility as part of the state government efforts in rejiging all secondary health facilities to meet the global health practice.
In a statement by public relations officer of the board Samira Suleiman said during the visit in the facility, Part of the challenges they meet where dilapidated ceilings at the Zonal Director’s office, KSCHMA unit, Female and paediatrics wards.

“Also a Leaking and blocked toilets at theatre, ANC and Female wards, Analogue x-ray machine, Outdated theatre unit, Inadequate security personnel as well as Inadequate OPD unit,” said the statement.
According to her, the team which is vested with the power to take immediate action made a provision of separate toilet for staff at the A& E unit.Also the socket connecting the blood bank at the laboratory was fixed, faulty microscope have been repaired and functioning well. The toilet at the laboratory was also repaired and in use now.
The hospital has also commenced the re-casing of mattresses starting with 20 for now.
In addition, the team recommended that HMB should support the facility to repair/replace all the dilapidated ceilings, facility to immediately repair all faulty couch, and within 3 days should repair and fix all the faulty toilets.
The team also suggested that the State Ministry of Health to consider total upgrade of the theatre, OPD unit and general renovation of the facility and to supply digital x-ray machine to meet the current trend. Also HMB to mobilise and post more security personnel to the facility so as to provide security.
The team then commended the management for a job well done in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility and also the effort in restoring back the only x-ray machine in the facility to function in order to serve the patients in need.

Receiving the report from the team, the Executive Secretary Kano State Hospitals Management Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda was very delighted with the outcome of the findings in the facility adding that ” there is very much improvements, all the recommendations would be looked into and shall be implemented promptly. In December, 2023 the CMD of the facility Dr. Hussain Muhammad clinched the award of best Chief Medical Director of 2023 award by Hospitals Management Board and the State Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, in continuation with the daily executive midnight supervision, the team paid an unscheduled visit to Muhammad Abdullah Wase Teaching Hospital best know as “Nassarawa Hospital.”
Dr Nagoda expressed dissatisfaction with the end result of the findings. The team found the facility with no water Supply, most of the toilets are unkept and stinking, Air-conditioning system not functional and inadequate furniture in the Labour ward. Also no anaesthetic drugs in obstetrics theatre and most of the wards visited are manned by lone nurse with about 20 to 30 admitted patients.
The report further explained that the A & E Toilets are not functional as they need some plumbing work. The building for A & E is not well ventilated by design and function. The hospital environment is clean, but most of the refuse bins are filled to the brim, there was adequate power supply in the facility.
According to Suleiman, the 1st action point is that the CMD should issue query letters to truant staff who were totally absent from their duty post as well as calling for an emergency meeting with the CMD of the facility.
The Executive Secretary has promised to attend to the laid down issue as a matter of urgency as the state government is ready to intervene in setting back the sanity of health system.
“We would do our very best to create a healthy environment as well as fixing all what is absent in the facility. We would not relent our effort in giving the populace the very best,” he said.
