AGILE Kano Records Significant Increase in Girl Enrollment, Retention in Secondary Schools — Nasiru Kwalli

The Adolescent Girl Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Kano state has recorded a significant increase in the enrollment as well as retention of girls into primary and secondary schools in the state.

The Kano state project coordinator Nasiru Abdullahi Kwalli disclosed this in a live program on local radio station in Kano monitored by GLOBAL TRACKER.

According to Kwalli, the project is making strides in improving the quality and access to education for young adolescent girls taking back out of school children to classrooms.

He said the main objectives is to address the persistent problems bedeviling secondary schools, especially for girls, who often face barriers such as inadequate schools, infrastructure, water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.

“These initiatives, along with others including the Safe School Initiative, are a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every girl child in Kano has the opportunity to fulfil her potential”,

“We hope every child will receive a quality education and lead a healthy life. We believe that investing in our girls is not just a matter of social justice but also a strategic imperative for our nation’s progress and development,” he said.

The coordinator maintained that the project also gives out conditional cash transfer as Assistant to all girls who have 80% and above attendance in the whole term, adding the student were in received of life skills training on how to take care of themselves as girls among others.

He then called on parents, caregivers, guardian and the general public to support the project by taking their subjects back to school so as to achieve the target objectives.

AGILE is World bank, federal and states ministry of education funded project aimed at increasing access to secondary education and enhance quality and accountability in secondary schools in implementing States.
