The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says it would gradually lift sanctions imposed on Niger Republic after military takeover.
The development was part of the resolution in a extraordinary summit of the ECOWAS conference of heads of state.
A security analyst and counter insurgency expert in the lake Chad region and west Africa Zagazola Makama in a post on his verified social media handle said there are still few heads of state to be convince on the issue.

According to some indiscretions, behind the scenes of the extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State, “it seems that ECOWAS sanctions will be lifted gradually, however there are still a few Heads of State to convince.
It said President Faure has been actively working on in recent days on the other hand, the UEMOA sanctions, will be maintained, until President Bazoum is released.
Recall that this summit will be held this Saturday 24 February 2024 in Abuja and will discuss the withdrawal of the 3 countries from ECOWAS as well as the sanctions imposed on Niger following the hostage-taking of President-elect Mohamed Bazoum by General Tiani and his Presidential Guard.
