Gidan Makama Primary School Celebrates 90-year Anniversary

As Gidan Makama Special Primary School celebrated its 90-year anniversary, the Kano state government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving basic education for a better society.

The state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this at the 90th anniversary held on Sunday in Kano.

The governor represented by state commissioner for education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa said improving basic education would serve as a boost to the education sector in the state.

Doguwa emphasized the need for the parents and members of the community to complement the state’s government effort towards the improving education sector.

“We’re congratulating this primary for its 90th Anniversary, the school was blessed graduating prominent people nationwide, as the state ministry for education considered the school as an advanced level academic outfit with grade A students,” Duguwa said.

In his keynote address, the chairman Board of Trustees of the school who doubled as former Kano state governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau described the event as an avenue for enhancing the spirit of brotherhood among old Pupils.

“I want to call on old Pupils of the school to consistently visit it, and a stuck of what is happening on the ground.” Senator Shekarau said.

Shekarau who is among the old Pupils emphasized the need for all class chapters to form strong executives that will improve teaching and learning in the school.

Speaking earlier, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero commended the association for organizing the event.

Bayero represented by the Sarkin Dawaki Mai-tuta Alhaji Bello Abubakar also said the Emir was at the school last month for his blessings in commemoration of 70 years of remembrance death of the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero who led the establishment of the school in 1934.

In his welcome address, the National President Gidan Makama Old Pupils Association GIMOPA Engineer Babangida Lamido said the school was among the first generation of primary schools in the state that provide educational background to numerous high-profile individuals of utmost caliber that impacted and still impacting positively on the social, Religious, political as well as economic life of people not only at the state or national levels but globally.

“Our gathering witness the commissioning of projects execution by the association and that of some prominent people in the association and also soliciting the support for completion of the ongoing projects,” Babangida said.

Gidan Makama Special Primary School was established in 1934 by the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero that produced two late Head of State General Murtala Ramat Muhammad, and General Sani Abacha as well as 3 state governors both military and civilian namely Brigadier General Balarabe Haladu, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi, senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, and other prominent figures.
