Scores of bandits were confirmed to have been killed amidst three days of intensified clashes among three different groups around Maru and Dansadau all in the Maru local government area of Zamfara State.

A source who doesn’t want his name on print told a Security Analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lakechad region and West Africa Zagazola Makama that fighters loyal to Kachallah Dogo Gide, Ali Kawaje, and Late Damina, have turned on each other with each of the groups killing any member they find from the other group.

The sources did not mention the reason for the recent clashes among the groups but noted that each of the bandit groups is now hunting for each other.

The groups had in the past coordinated mass kidnapping of victims where they demanded a large sum of ransom from the government but things began to fall apart with the recent inter-rival clashes.

Reports say one of such deadliest attacks was carried out by Ado Allero when he ambushed and killed four prominent bandit leaders including Makaranta, Malam Gainaga, Mallam Tukur, and Malam Jaddi as well as 48 of their fighters in Mada village in Gusau, Yan Waren Daji, and Munhaye in the Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA).

The bandit leadership later demanded that Ado Allero should pay 50 million for each bandit Commander killed, 1 million for junior rank fighters as well as an additional one million for each cow he stole from the other fighters as financial compensation, to which he agreed.

Again, Allero was ordered to return 150 rifles he seized from the camp of Alhaji Dan Nigeria, in Yan Ware, which he did.

Meanwhile, GLOBAL TRACKER continues to look for the reason behind the recent clashes.
