BREAKING: Mexico, Nicaragua Cut Diplomatic Ties with Ecuador

Mexico has cut diplomatic relations with Ecuador after Ecuador’s security forces stormed Mexico’s embassy in its capital Quito to arrest former Mexican vice president Jorge Glas, who had been granted political asylum there.

The incident which happened on Friday night prompted Mexico to quickly sever diplomatic ties with the South American nation, citing the “violation of international law.”

Meanwhile, one of main Mexico City’s allies Nicaragua followed suit in cutting diplomatic relations with Quito.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said authorities “forcibly entered” the building to arrest Glas, accused of corruption.

In the meantime, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has strongly condemned the operation “in the strongest terms” and expressed his support for Mexico.

Also, Honduras has called for an urgent meeting in the Latin American and Caribbean state blocks to assess the matter.
