The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has shutdown offices of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the electricity distribution companies (DISCOS) in protest of the electricity tariff hike.
The Union members from all state across the country shutdown the offices and raised placards with various inscriptions denouncing the 300% hike in electricity tariff to brand A of the nation’s power consumers.
Meanwhile, Leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC and the Trade Union Congress ,TUC stormed office of the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state to protest on the hike of electricity tariff in the country.
Addressing newsmen at the Discos office, Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Murtala Ahmed, said the protest was to ask the federal government to order for a reversal of recent hike in electricity tariff nationwide saying, the recent hike in electricity tariff as unjustifiable and inhuman.
Comrade Usman expressed with dismay the untold economic hardship the hike would be causing to the people in the country.
He therefore called on President Bola Tinubu to bring to an end various harsh economic policies his administration had been introducing in the last one year to the citizenry that has created poverty.
