Spanish press said the Ukrainian leader made the decision after Russia launched a fresh offensive on northeastern Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Macron also convenes a defence and national security council meeting to discuss riots that have killed two and injured hundreds in New Caledonia.

Macron has cancelled a trip to a French region planned for early Wednesday to handle the crisis in the Pacific territory, and the regular weekly cabinet meeting has been moved to the afternoon, AFP news agency reports.

The visit is aimed at signing bilateral security agreement at the Elysée Palace on Friday between Ukraine and France.

It was also learned that Ukraine is in talk with several other European countries for the same deal.
