Halted Niger Mass Wedding: MSSN Calls For Immediate Suspension of Women Affairs Minister

Muslim Student Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Niger State Unit Area, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately suspend minister of women affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over suit to halt planned 100 wedding of Orphans’ girl in the state.

MSSN Ameer in the state, Mahmud Lawal Murshid, who made the call during a press briefing in Minna, said the minister is not only a religious bigotry but an affront to Muslims he described as anti Islam in the country.

MSSN reminded the minister that Islam respect women, adding that Islam has reserved women rights over one thousand four hundred years ago more than any religion or acclaimed Child Rights Act.

The Muslim Society further said it observed that the minister is the next enemy of Islam and Muslims in the country, calling on Niger State Government, National Assembly Members, Traditional and Religious organisations in the country to rise up against the enemies of Islam and Muslims.

The Society condemned the court action against Niger state speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkin- Daji explained that Islam accorded much respect to marriage institution, commended the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, for sponsoring the mass wedding bills of one hundred women in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

It also advised the minister to stop distracting Nigerians from her inability to perform her duties, adding that she is ignorant to teachings of the Qur’an and saying and practice of Prophet Muhammad ( S. A. W).

The MSSN while asking were was minister when the fathers of the women were kidnapped and killed by terrorists, said the consent the women were sort which is one of the cardinal pillar of marriage in Islam.
