As raining season edging closer, the Kano state government have called on the general public to ensure total clearance of their drainage to avoid flooding.
The state commissioner of environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo disclosed this while briefing journalist shortly after monthly environmental sanitation exercise held in Kano on Saturday.
GLOBAL TRACKER recalled, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency have predicted floods in 14 local governments of Kano state.

However, Garo in an interview with journalist said that preparations are underway in the Ministry of Environment to desilts all the major and minor drainages aimed at curving the threats of the flood.
The commissioner also appealed to the general public to avoid cutting down trees illegally, saying that for every tree that is cut down, two should be planted.
H said the state government will cooperate with authorities and non-governmental organizations to plant trees across the state to fight against the effects of global warming and climate change in the state.
