World Youth Skills Day: AHIP Urges Youth To Shun Drug Abuse Acquire Education, Skills

The executive director of ED Adolescent Health and Information Projects AHIP Hajiya Mairo Bello has called on youths to shun drug abuse and acquire Education and skills to make them self-reliant.

In a statement to commemorate World Youth Skills Day made available to newsmen in Kano.

Hajiya Mairo Bello, the executive director of AHIP in a statement described drug peddling and abuse as major catalysts to societal vices and criminal activities among others.

Hajiya Mairo pointed out that, education and skills would empower youth, give them leadership opportunities increase their resilience and build their self confidence.

The executive director asserted that youths have a vital role to play and emphasizes the importance of developing the skills of youth in various fields to benefit society.

“ Information technology (ICT), entrepreneurship and vocational training for youth is very important as the world is turning into a global village”

She maintained that, as a youth-focused non-governmental organization NGO AHIP trained thousands of youths in sports, vocational, and livelihood skills.

“Developing strong skills in communication, leadership, and productivity is essential for young people. The United Nations General Assembly designated July 15th as World Ysouth Skills Day in 2014 to recognize the importance of equipping youth with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship”

The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2024 is “Youth Skills for Peace and Development,” intending to promote peace and stability in Kano and Nigeria overall.

The statement also urges the government, philanthropists, and the private sector to prioritize youth by offering leadership opportunities and essential skills to address issues such as unemployment and drug abuse.
