Veteran Journalist, Former Zonal Director FRCN Kaduna Dies at 80

The former zonal director of the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria (FRCN) Malam Lawal Yusuf Saulawa is dead.

He died last night, and will be buried on Sunday at 01:00PM in Badikko, Kaduna.

Until his death, Yusuf was former general manager of Nagarta Radio, Kaduna.

Meanwhile, the broadcasting community mourns the loss of Saulawa, who passed away at the age of 80 after a prolonged illness.

A source said his death occurred at a hospital in Kaduna, and confirmed by a family member.

Alhaji Saulawa’s career in journalism began on March 15, 1967, when he joined the Northern Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (BCNN), now known as the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kaduna.

He started as a cameraman and worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming the Director of FRCN, Kaduna, and a zonal director at Radio Kaduna.

He also served as the Commissioner for Information in Katsina State.

In the mid-1970s, Alhaji Saulawa worked with the BBC Hausa Service.

He gained recognition for his popular radio drama “Dan Arewa A Landan,” which resonated with many listeners.

Alhaji Saulawa’s contributions to journalism and broadcasting will be remembered.

Also, his legacy continues to inspire many in the field.
