Court Restrains Muhammad Bello, 14 Others From Parading Self as Executives of Kano Civil Society Forum

A Kano state high court presided over by justice Aisha Ya’u has granted and interim order restraining Muhammad Bello and fourteen (14) others from parading themselves as the executive members of Kano state civil society forum pending the hearing of the motion on notice before the court.

The order followed an interim injunction filed by aggrieved members of the forum who accused the forum of sidelining as well as excluded them during the conduct of the recently election which returned Muhammad Bello as the news Forum’s chairman.

The applicants in the suit are Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, Ibrahim Hassan Gama, Hajiya Rakiya Ladi Musa, Peter Hassan Tijjani, Mustapha Chiroma, Ibrahim Muhammad, Yahaya A. Yahaya, and Barrister Maryam Abubakar as 1st to 8th Plaintiffs.

Also, the respondents are Registered Trustees of Kano Civil Society Forum, Hamisu Isa (chairman electoral committee), Dr. Abdurahaman Hudu (secretary electoral committee), Halima Ben Omar (member electoral committee), Abdurazak Alkali (member electoral committee), Abba Bello (member electoral committee), and Hajiya Mairo Garko (member electoral committee) as 1st to 7th respondents.

Others the elected chairman Mohammad Bello, Fatima Musa Aliyu, Kabiru Ibrahim Ahmad, Salisu Yusuf, Barrister Aminu Sani Muhammad, Salisu Gambo Detol, Ali Wali, Maryam Garba Usman, Dinatu Dama Maji, Ruqayya Abdulraman, Hassan Garba Baraya, Barrister Umar Isah Suleiman, A A Haruna Ayagi, Barrister Fatima Chabir and Buhari Abubakar Usman as 8th to 22nd respondents.

It could be recalled that the civil society forum has appointed an electoral committee to organize elections, however, about 100 aggrieved members accused the committee led by Alhaji Hamisu Isa for irregularities, exclusion of many members from partaking in the election and lack of neutrality.

According to them, the election which scheduled on 8th June, 2024 many members of the forum who were duly registered was excluded a situation that prompted them to head to court.

Before the conduct of the elections on 8th June, 2024, many members of the Forum complained to the Board of Trustees of non – inclusion of many registered members, and requested the Board to postpone the elections in the interest of fairness and inclusion.

Unfortunately and to our surprise, the Board refused to heed to the request of the members, and went ahead to authorize the conduct of the elections, despite the repeated demands by the members from all quarters

The Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Aisha Ya’u, in an experte motion dated 29th July, 2024, granted the request of the applicants and issued an interim injunction restraining those claimed to be elected, to stop parading themselves as executives of the Kano Civil Society Forum, pending the determination of the case slated to on 10th Sept. 2024
