The current economic crisis, Insecurity, the rapid population growth coupled with high rate of unemployment remained key issues which triggered food-insecurity and Hunger in Nigeria.
Dr. Christiana V. N. Atako, President and Chairman of council of Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM) stated this at opening ceremony of the 2024 Northwest zonal summit of the institute themed: Economic Crisis, Food Insecurity and Poverty in Northwest Nigeria, Issues, Challenges and Way Forward held in Kano on Thursday.
According to her, the institute don’t blamed anybody on issues that troubled society, but gather expert to critically look at anything and brought possible solutions that would be taken to government as well as policy makers for proper implementation.

“In NIM what we do is advocacy, we try to look at situation and contemporary issues, discussed them and try to find solutions and we believed that their is always a way out of this issues and problems,” she said.
“To every challenge troubling Nigeria, their is always way out, we have the man power, we have the finances that would change the country to better than now, so we have come here together to talk, to look at this issues critically and putout communiqué/statements as a way forward, submit it to policy makers, to politicians for proper implementation so as to make the country better,” said the president.
She urged members of the institute to continue paying their obligations as at when due and call on those willing to register with the NIM to immediately do so for the success of themselves and the country by extension.
Professor A. S. Garba, the Northeastern zonal chairman of the institute says the body organises annual general meeting to discussed issues at a stake, and advised both local, state and federal government for better solutions.
“We as managers, our focus is what is the issue at the stake, and when you look at the issues raised and the region which is Northwestern Nigeria you will find out that economic hardship and crises, poverty, and insecurity is what is devastating this region today, so we understand that the only way we can contributes our quoter is to bring people to discuss the issue and to see whether we can provide solutions to policy makers,” he said.

He then urged members of the institute in Kano and the Northeastern zone to continue actively participating in the activities of the organization.
The zonal chairman then solicit the support of states governors so as to register qualified civil servants into the institute for better operations as well as training them to be self reliance.
In a remark, the executive governor of Kano state Engineer Abba Kabiru Yusuf commended the institute for hosting the submit in Kano.
Yusuf represented by the commissioner for Budget and Planning Musa Suleiman Shanono said the state government has embarked on sponsorship of students abroad to seek for better education and be productive to the society were by coming back with policies that would help in contributing to the development of Kano and northwestern states.
According to Shanono, the state government is also donating fifty thousand Naira to hundred women drawn from four hundred and eighty four (484) wards in Kano state to be able to bursts small scale businesses and improve the people’s economy.

He assured that the state government will continue to design policies and program that would improve the people’s economy, promote small and medium enterprises as well as the security of life and properties of residents.
In his message to the participants, the 16th Emir of Kano Malam Muhammad Sanusi II represented by “Zannan Kano” urged stakeholders and institute’s leadership to comes off with meaningful steps towards strengthening Nigerian economy.
