The Kano State government has planned to upgrade its Zoological Garden and establish a film village in an efforts to boosts tourism and generate more revenue.

The Managing Director of Kano Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency, Sadiq Kura Muhammad stated this to newsmen in Kano.

Speaking during Kano FM’s radio program Kyan Alkawari, Muhammad highlighted the zoo’s neglect under previous administrations.

“The zoo has faced issues of underfunding and insufficient staff for years,” he said.

Muhammad mentioned that the agency has submitted a budget proposal to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, which includes both the zoo’s upgrade and the construction of a film village.

He noted that the initiative could improve tourism and boost Kano’s profile in the film industry.

“The film village will attract both local and international filmmakers, benefiting Kano’s cultural and economic sectors,” Muhammad added.

In June 2016, the Federal Government proposed building a film village in Kano to support local film production and create jobs. However, some Islamic clerics opposed the plan, citing concerns about promoting immorality and undermining Islamic values.
