The Kano state government has decried how motorists from neighbouring states are defaulting monthly environmental sanitation exercise laws, describing the development as unbecoming.
The state commissioner for environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo disclosed this shortly after monthly environmental sanitation exercise held in Kano on Saturday.
According to the commissioner, the state government and all taskforce members were not happy on how motorists from neighbouring states are trooping in to the state during sanitation hours despite their full knowledge of the existence of law for the conduct of the sanitation on every last Saturday of the month.

“It is very unfortunate that the good people of Kano state are giving us all the necessary support and cooperation we need, but motorists especially those coming from neighbouring states are violating environmental sanitation rules and regulations, the mobile court have fined many of them today, but this is not what we want, we want people to bey the staying at home order and fully participate in the Monthly exercise and we will continue doing so,” said Garo.
“We will be engaging with all the stakeholders on this, we will discussed this with police to urged them to continue supporting us and giving us all the necessary support in ensuring the success of this important exercise,” he said.
Asked on the issue of some ministries and Agencies including schools setting-up examination and programs during the exercise, Nasiru Garo said “this program is not new one, it has been in existence in Kano state for a very long time, all civil servants are fully aware of the stay at home order during sanitation, so we see no reason why other agencies and MDAs of government fixing their programs during this hours especially those program that are local not national ones because when it is national program we understand that Kano will not be an exception but we see no reason an MDA of Kano state will be doing so, but we will talk to them and have dialogue and very good Synergy so as to address all the issues,” Garo said.
“People should know that if you were fined that didn’t give you permit to be going around the city, impact if you were fined and continued to meet another road block, same sanctions or more fine would be imposed on you, for example if you were fined five thousand Naira and you continue driving if another people stop you, they will double it, people should be aware of that,” said commissioner.
