The Augie Local Government Council Chairman in Kebbi State, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed Augie, has confirmed that, 23 people were killed including a mother and her three children and many sustained injury following an attack by Lakurawa bandits said to be operating around the axis of Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The Council Chairman made this known when he received the Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar on condolence visit on behalve of the state government and donation of 50 million naira to the victims families.
He appreciated the swift government response and Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida’s visits to provide comfort to the affected families.
The Council Chairman, revealed that, additional support of 30 million naira came from Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudo and 2.2 million naira from the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu to cushion the hardship of the victims’ families.
The State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, who conveyed condolences and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, said the amount can replace lost lives, pledging government’s efforts to prevent similar tragedies
Each family that lost a loved one received 3 million naira, individuals with injuries got 750,000 thousand naira for medical bills, while families whose cattle were stolen received N200,000 per head.
The bandits on Saturday storm Mera Village in Augie local government area of Kebbi State killing many and cat away over a hundred cows.
