NAPTIP, ACOMIN Secure Conviction of 27-year Old for Sexual Exploitation

The National Agency for provision of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) in collaboration with civil society in Malaria Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has secured the conviction of one Ahmad Sani of Gayawa quarters, Nassarawa local government area in Kano state for sexual Exploitation of 12 year old Minor, an offense contrary to section 16 of the trafficking in person act, 2015.

The case was referred to NAPTIP by civil society organization working with ACOMIN, after which the accused persons arraigned before Justice S. M Shu’aibu of the federal high court sitting in Kano.

NAPTIP who communicated the development to ACOMIN said Ahmad Sani was found guilty by the court and sentence him to seven (7) years without option of fine.

Abdulhakeem Dayyab, a state program officer working with ACOMIN under the COVID-19 response mechanism program disclosed while briefing GLOBAL TRACKER correspondent during monthly Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Gender Based Human right coordination meeting with various stakeholders held in Kano on Thursday.

According to SPO, the meeting is aimed at providing the forum’s representatives from the CBOs implementing C19RM, the State Team including service providers and partners to discuss the status of GBV/GHR in the state, based on data and project implementation stages.

He said the meeting will also identify challenges and make recommendations for resolving them.

“Specifically, the objectives of the meeting are to gain insight into the responsibilities and contributions of partners and stakeholders in preventing GBV, delivering essential services, promoting awareness campaigns, and other activities.

“At the meeting, we will review data from the previous month to track progress and identify areas for improvement, to discuss challenges and identify a way forward to address them,” he said.

“We at the meeting also sustain the platform for possible synergy between partners and stakeholders on GBV prevention, identification, reporting, and ensuring that services are survivor-centered and easily accessible to survivors,” he added.

Dayyabu then urged participants to redouble their efforts in sensitizing the general public on the importance of fight against gender based violence in local communities and the state at large.
