We’ll Ensure Transparency, Accountability in Public Funds Management — Kano Auditor General

The Kano state government has assured the general public that the state government would ensure transparency and accountability in the public financial management.

The state Auditor General Alhaji Ismail Musa disclosed this at the 8th Kano state annual audit forum organized by office of state Auditor general held in Kano on Thursday.

According to him, the forum is aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in public financial management and significantly reduce the opportunities of corruption and abuse of public resources, there by increasing the efficiency of public expenditure.

“The forum organizes meetings like this one to tell the public that the state government is accountable to its citizens in terms of accountability, transparency and prudent, the forum also gives Auditor general a chance to showcase his audits findings at the end of financial year,” said Ismail Musa.

“Sections 125(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and 36(i) of the Kano State Audit Law, 2021 (as amended) mandated the Office of the Auditor General to audit the accounts and financial statements of the State Government and of all Offices and Courts. Compliment to this provisions I have audited the Accounts and submitted to the Hon. State Assembly my 2023 annual report within the stipulated time frame,” said Ismail.

He then commended the executive governor of Kano state Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf for his efficient and commitment to serve Kano people.

In a remark, the chairman of Kano state house of assembly public account committee (PAC) Alhaji Tukur Muhammad Fagge said his committee has act on the seven years state account report that has not been deal with, stressing that the committee has mandated that no account will be audited unless it is up-to-date.

Tukur Muhammad who member representing Fagge state constituency assured that his committee would ensure transparency on public financing, the development that would ensure every public fund is accounted for.

He assured that the legislative arm of Kano government would work hand-in-hand with executive side for successful implementation of developmental projects.
