EXCLUSIVE: Kano Water Board Staff to Embark on Indefinite Strike for None-payment of Salary, Minimum Wage Implementation

The staff of Kano state water board says they will embark on indefinite strike on Tuesday 10th December, 2024 for the none-payment of their salary and implementation of seventy thousands naira (70,000.00) new national minimum wage.

The chairman of board’s Union Comrade Najib Abdulsalam Sule stated this in an exclusive chats with GLOBAL TRACKER correspondent in Kano.

According to him, the board is struggling to the payment of salary due to dilapidation of equipment at various water treatment and distribution plant in the state.

“Is only when the board sell water to public and generate revenue, then she can be able to pay salaries, now that most of state water treatment plant were partially of totally down, the management of the board find it difficult to pay salaries,” he said.

“Since April this year when the issue of new national minimum wage became serious, we write to the management for about three times on this issue and as i am speaking now no response,” said the chairman.

“Today is Wednesday the 4th of December, up to now none of our staff received his salary because the board said it would pay the salary on the old system and all the board’s staff except two reject it,” the chairman added.

“We have complained to Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and other relevant bodies that we will start the indefinite strike tomorrow Thursday 5th December 2024, but NLC asked for three day ultimatum for which if the management of the board didn’t comply, we will automatically be on strike,” he said.

But the chairman said the three day ultimatum was given for which if the management don’t comply, the staff will shutdown the board.

Comrade Najeeb then solicit for the executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s intervention on the issue and so as to rescue the staff.
