In its efforts to combat challenges facing environment as a result of climate change and other issue threatening human life, the Kano state government says it has nearly completed its policy on climate change named “Kano Climate Change Policy KCCP.”
The state commissioner for environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo disclosed this at the induction, training Awards and Investiture of New members into the African Institute of Waste Management and Environment Studies (AIWMES) held in Kano at the Weekend.
According to him, the policy will support the state government to participate in any environment and climate change issues with aim coming of with laws and policies that will benefit the good people of Kano state.

“For the first time, Kano state government participated in global movement for the fight against climate change tagged COP-28 and COP-29 programs organized by United Nations in different cities globally,” said Garo.
“After coming to office, the executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has change the name of the ministry from ministry of environment to ‘ministry of environment and climate change’ so that the state government can be able to knee into all programs and policies aimed at eradicating environmental challenges which is now trending issue globally,” said commissioner.
“When this government come on board, the Kano state Refuse management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) were disbanded, but Alhamdulillah the administration of engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf has revived it and purchased some trucks and implements so as the agency will continue its important work in the state,” added the commissioner.
“In Nigeria i think is only Lagos state has this policy and our own in coming soon, so if this policy becomes reality it would all the state to participate in any environmental programs and policies, and it would help the state achieved more on environment,” he added.
The commissioner then urged all stakeholders on environment to complement government efforts the fight against environmental challenges in the state.
