North Korea’s Test of Intermediate Hypersonic Missile Successful, Says Kim

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has successfully tested new intermediate -range hypersonic missile aimed accelerating the development of the country’s nuclear capabilities.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that country’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un supervised the testing.

The test lined-up the Pyongyang to the fourth country with such nuclear after Russia , Iran and China.

The hypersonic missile was fired from the outskirts of Pyongyang on Monday. It flew about 1,500km (932 miles) at 12 times the speed of sound, reaching an altitude of nearly 100km (62 miles) before descending to a “second peak” of 42.5km (26.4 miles) and manoeuvring to hit a target in waters off the country’s east coast.

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un said that a new hypersonic missile system used in a test launch on Monday would help deter the country’s rivals in the Pacific.

“The hypersonic missile system will reliably contain any rivals in the Pacific region that can affect the security of our state,” Kim, who oversaw the launch, said in comments carried by KCNA.
