One Voice Development Initiative has acknowledged the extension of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) management’s tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing its contributions to the nation’s economic activities.

The initiative’s National President, Ambassador Abbas Yakasai, described the decision as one that supports business growth and attracts investments.

“This bold step underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business and investment,” Yakasai stated.

Yakasai highlighted the NCS’s achievements under Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, noting that the service had surpassed its revenue targets for 2024, collecting ₦2.74 trillion in the first half of the year—a 127% increase compared to 2023.

He also referenced the service’s effective strategies, including real-time system audits, post-clearance checks, and the implementation of the Authorized Economic Operators scheme.

“The remarkable efforts of the NCS leadership have doubled, and we believe they will soon manifest in significant economic impacts,” Yakasai said.

In border control, the NCS recorded 2,442 seizures valued at over ₦25.5 billion in the first half of 2024. The seizures included narcotics, arms, ammunition, vehicles, and foreign rice. The introduction of a special jet for air patrol and the unveiling of the service’s first female pilot demonstrated efforts to combat smuggling and enhance border security.

“The service is better equipped than ever to combat smuggling activities and send a clear signal to economic saboteurs,” Yakasai remarked.

The NCS has also focused on stakeholder engagement and staff welfare, promoting over 5,700 officers across various ranks. Yakasai emphasized that discussions with stakeholders have aligned the service’s goals with national and international trade policies, enhancing Nigeria’s trade competitiveness.

“This gesture has shown professionalism and strategic planning, safeguarding operational continuity and preserving institutional knowledge,” he added.

The One Voice Development Initiative expressed optimism about the economic impact of these achievements.

“We urge the NCS team under CG Adewale Adeniyi to continue making Nigerians proud,” Yakasai added
