Nigeria Officially Joins BRICS as Partner Country

In its quest to foster international collaboration and economic growth, the federal republic of Nigeria has officially accepted an invitation to join BRICS as a partner country (Not full member), marking a significant milestone in the Abuja’s history.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement signed by Acting Spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, announced that the Federal government’s decision to join BRICS aligns with its commitment to advancing strategic partnerships that support Nigeria’s development objectives.

BRICS, an influential bloc of emerging economies comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, provides Nigeria with a unique platform to enhance trade, investment, and socio-economic cooperation.

According to the statement, Nigeria aims to leverage its new status to advance shared goals in trade and investment, energy security, infrastructure development, technology, and climate change.

The partnership is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s pursuit of inclusive growth, regional integration, and a more equitable global economic order.

“This partnership underscores our national aspirations for inclusive development and active participation in shaping a fair and equitable global economic framework in line with our ethos of strategic autonomy,” the statement read.

Nigeria also expressed its readiness to engage constructively with BRICS member countries, drive innovation, and foster people-to-people exchanges while advancing its strategic priorities on the global stage.
