FG Suspends Max Air’s Operations After Its Plane Crash-Lands at Kano Airport

The federal government of Nigeria has suspended the operations of Max Air after its plane crash-lands at Malam Aminu Kano international airport Kano.

The Nigerian Civilian Aviation Authority (NCAA) also confirmed the development through its director of public relations and customer protection Mr Michael Achimugu.

A Max Air Boeing 737-400, with registration number 5N-MBD, suffered a tyre burst while landing on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at approximately 10:51 PM. All 53 passengers on board were safely evacuated, but the aircraft was temporarily grounded before the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) reopened the runway at 8:00 AM on Wednesday.

This marks the third incident involving a Max Air aircraft in the past three months, prompting an investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

The NCAA has pledged full support for the inquiry.

GLOBAL TRACKER earlier learned that the latest crash involved a Max Air aircraft with 53 passengers and 6 crew members at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Tuesday night.

The plane, arriving from Lagos, experienced a front tire burst and subsequent fire, prompting an emergency evacuation.

A passenger reported that the incident occurred at around 10:19 pm, with smoke filling the aircraft cabin.

Passengers were evacuated through the emergency exit door, and fire servicemen quickly responded to contain the flame.

Speaking to journalist via phone call, Malam Bello Ramalan, Kano Station Manager of Max Air, apologized for the inconvenience and expressed gratitude for the safety of all on board.

He stated that the airline followed standard procedures for a crash landing and is cooperating with investigation authorities.

Max Air emphasized that safety is their top priority, and they will implement necessary corrective actions based on the investigation’s findings.
