Some residents of Sandamu and Baure Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Katsina have expressed their gratitude after both the state and local governments resolved their long-standing water problem.

The residents expressed their happiness on Tuesday during a local government tour conducted by the Katsina chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel.

In Baure, several residents commended the state and local government for providing a solar-powered borehole to the Daki Babba community.

Malam Murtala Audu, the village head of Audu Babba, said that for many years, the people struggled to access water. However, with the provision of the borehole, their water problem had been solved.

He explained that for years, community members had to trek several kilometers to fetch water or relied on a few wells in the area.

“We thank God and the governments for this gesture. Now we are all happy seeing water in our domain,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Audu lauded the local government chairman, Alhaji Murtala Adamu, and Gov. Dikko Radda for their efforts in resolving their water crisis.

The Council Chairman said that he was able to achieve the water, electricity, and other developments in the education and health sectors through the full support and approval he received from the governor.

Alhaji Usman Nalado, the Chairman of Sandamu LGA, told journalists that with the governor’s support, he successfully tackled the decades-long water scarcity in the area.

He revealed that the project, which was approved by the governor, had cost about N84 million during his three years in office.

Since the project was commissioned in 2024, Nalado explained, it had significantly reduced the water challenges in the region.

He added that a 550,000-gallon tank had been provided, along with a reliable electricity supply to ensure the community had access to water at any time.

He also said his administration had drilled eight boreholes in strategic locations to further improve water supply in the area.

He also commended the governor for the quick release of funds to support these projects.
