The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kebbi State Council, has distrubuted food item and cash to families of late members of the union who died in active service as Ramadan gift.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Council Chairman, Comrade Bello Sarki Abubakar, said the annual event which has become a tradition was initiated by former chairman of the state’s council, Alhaji Aliyu Jajirma to put smiles in the faces of the widows and children of the late colleagues.
Comrade Sarki Abubakar, said the successive administrations of the union have ensure the holding of that event during every Ramadan that aims to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship being faced by families of the departed members of the Union in kebbi state.

He announce that, each family of the 21 deceased members of the union will receive a bag of rice (25 kg) and the sum of ten thousand naira and also gave eighty thousand naira and two bags of rice to each of the six chapels as Ramadan and Sallah package.
While thanking the State Government under the leadership of Comrade Nasiru Idris for its support to the union, Comrade Sarki, acknowledged the developmental projects executed by Governor Nasir Idris’s Administration within two years to better the lives of the people in the state.
The State Commissioner for information and culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, while commending the leadership of the union for assisting the families of late members, assured the Union that the state government would continue to prioritize for the welfare of journalists in the state and promised to make the next edition of the event a memorable for the deceased families.
In a vote of thank on behalf of the beneficiaries, a wife of one of the deceased members of the Union, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi, thanked the Union for always remembering them after the death of their husbands.
