The Islamic Republic of Iran has rejected direct negotiations with the United States of America over its nuclear deal.
Iran foreign minister Abbas Araghchi on sunday announced the rejection describing it as “meaningless.”
The development comes hours after US president Donald Trump said he would prefer direct talks with the Iranian authorities.

GLOBAL TRACKER recalled that the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on May 8, 2018, under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The JCPOA was agreed upon in July 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) to limit Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for reduced sanctions.
The deal required the U.S. President to certify every 90 days that Iran was adhering to its terms.
During the time, Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal, citing the deal as “a disaster” and claiming Iran wasn’t complying with its terms, despite International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verification of Iran’s compliance, Trump refused to recertify the deal, withdrawing US in the deal and impose additional sanctions on Iran.
