United Stated has raised tariffs on China to 145 percent, as the ongoing war between Beijing and Washington continued.

The white house officials said president Donald Trump announced yesterday that tariffs on China have been raised to 125 percent.

The development comes after Beijing retaliated to earlier US levies.

According to the statement, now the White House is clarifying that China is actually facing about 145 percent in tariffs.

An official told reporters that the 125 percent refers to the “total reciprocal tariff rate”.

It does not include a 20 percent tariff earlier imposed by the Trump administration in response to China’s role in the fentanyl pipeline, the official said.

It said that brings the total tariffs on China to 145 percent. The official added the tariffs include some “sectoral carveouts” and other exemptions.
