The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (KNDMCSA) has commenced the last-mile delivery for family planning commodities.
In a statement sent to GLOBAL TRACKER by the public relations officer of the agency Farouk Isa Musa said the last-mile delivery for family planning commodities is a strategic initiative aimed at integrating the family planning supplies with the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme, whereby the state-owned health facilities will receive their supplies from the DMCSA warehouses free of charge.
According to the statement, the program is a collaborative effort between the DMCSA and the gates foundation through its Implementing Partner, the Capacity for Sustainable Development, C4SD.

Speaking at the event, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said integrating family planning supplies with last-mile delivery holds significant advantages, including accessibility enhancement, increase in utililization, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of the program.
He further listed other benefits the residents of the state will gain from the initiative, such as lowering health costs, timely delivery, reaching remote areas, reducing stockouts, and improving supply chain efficiency.
“The last-mile delivery ensures that family planning commodities and services reach the clients, even individuals in rural areas can access family planning commodities like contraceptives, making healthcare more inclusive. at the last smile can help in contributing to healthier families and communities,” Pharm. Sule rightly observed.
“The easy access to medications improves quality of life and reduces the overall healthcare burden. That is, the efficient last-mile delivery systems will help in reducing the costs associated with transportation of the commodities from DMCSA stores to facilities. This reduces the financial burden on health systems.”
When family planning commodities are delivered directly to local health centers, it reduces the need for facilities to travel long distances to DMCSA stores, saving both time and money.
The end result of this collarative effort will strengthen community health from grassroots, increase trust in health services, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and reduce mortality rates.
