Tashe Ban: Kano Task Force Arrests 28 Suspected Thugs

In its efforts to restore peace and ensure maximum adherence of banned on traditional performance “Tashe”, the task force committee setup by the Kano state government has arrested 28 suspected thugs in Kano metropolitan area.

The development was contained in a statement signed by public relations officer of the committee who doubled as state commissioner for information comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

According to the statement, arrest was done during operations conducted between 3rd and 13th March 2025, which involved personnel from the Police, NDLEA, DSS, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, Immigration, and Vigilante Group.

The security crackdown was carried out at strategic locations within Kano Metropolis following intelligence reports of planned thuggery-related activities during the holy month of Ramadan.

It said the recovered exhibits includes 283 parcels and 14 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, One cutlass, Three scissors, One pointed-iron, Two bottles of “suck and die”, Thirteen packets of Knockouts (bangers) and One rubber solution.

The statement said the suspects have been charged to Chief Magistrate Court No. 12 at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Task Force Committee has reiterated the ban on all forms of traditional performance known as “Tashe,” which has been associated with thuggery-related activities.

It said the use of knockouts (bangers) is strictly prohibited, and violators will face the full weight of the law.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar mata, commended the dedication of security personnel in the operations and urged law-abiding citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure Kano State.
