Kano Tourism Commissioner Visits Historical Sites, Traditional Crafts Centers

The Kano state Commissioner for Tourism and Culture Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano, has embarked on a strategic working visit to several historical sites and traditional craft centers within Kano metropolis.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the condition of these cultural and economic landmarks, identify challenges, and explore government led solutions to enhance tourism and promote traditional industries.

Rabi’u Umar Isah, the public relations officer of Kano state ministry of Tourism and culture said the tour began at the historic Marina in Kofar Mata, continued to the Majema at Kofar Wambai, and proceeded to the centuries old Kurmi Market, one of West Africa’s oldest trading centers.

The Commissioner also visited iconic heritage sites Dala Hill and Gwauran Dutse, observing firsthand the infrastructural and preservation needs of these culturally significant locations.

In their separate remarks, key stakeholders expressed appreciation for the visit and urged continued government support.

The Chairman of the Kofar Wambai Tannery, Malam Mustapha Umar, thanked the Commissioner and the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for their commitment to supporting traditional industries, calling for further assistance in modern equipment and better market access for local artisans.

Similarly, the Sarkin Kasuwar Kurmi, Alhaji Abdullahi Mai Kano, appealed to the Commissioner for the provision of a dedicated parking space at the market and improved security measures to ensure a safer and more organized trading environment for both traders and visitors.
