The renowned international islamic scholar Sheik Dr. Muhammad Bin Usman says five key phenomena were behind the rampant cases of phone snatching, thuggery of all kind and other violence in Nigeria.
Dr. Bin Usman stated this during 2025 Annual Dialogue on the topic “Youth restiveness and delinquency in Kano; Addressing the menace of Phone snatching, thuggery and substance abuse organized by Faculty of Humanities, Northwest University Kano held in City campus of the institution.
According to Usman, the Availability of drugs, the Sellability of drugs, the Affordability, the Profitability and its Accessibility remained key factors which trigger as well as aid youth to snatch phone sell and make money for the drugs.

“Drugs or substance Abuse is a catastrophic menace against political, economic and social reality of any nation, many countries around the world are complaining about the effects of drug abuse, and in my presentation i summarized the course in five things, number one is availability, sellability, profitability, accessibility (if the government can block the access to these drugs, those addicts can no longer take it), and affordability,” said Bin Usman.
The scholar believed that until governments and its agents, peoples from the communities, security agencies, parents, islamic scholars and other stakeholders comes together, Youth restiveness, delinquency, phone snatching and other social crimes will not be cartel.
In a paper presentation, the lecturer with Bayero University Kano professor Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa advocate for stiffer punishment on politicians sponsoring political thugs, phone snatchers and other criminals across the country.
“Firstly parents should step-up in guiding their wards, governments at all levels must provide good atmosphere for teaching and learning in schools so that youth should be educated, provide employment opportunities, stiffer punishment for drugs dealers, and those taking it, community members must also support security agencies while security must ensure the prosecution of all people pound taking drugs of whatever types,” said Dukawa.
Professor Dukawa added that the youth must not allowed themselves used by bad elements and prayers from all stakeholders for allah’s intervention.
In his well come address, the vice chancellor of the northwest university Kano professor Muktar Atiku Kurawa commended the participants for their attendance and attentions givens to the selected topic which the discussion will pay attention to the menace and possible way out of the problems.
Kurawa represented by his deputy professor Aisha Garba Habib said the university’s responsibilities centered on three key principle’s namely teaching, research work and service to communities.
