In its effort to improve the services that rendered to the people of kano state, kano state internal revenue services (KIRS) in collaboration with non governmental organisation known as partnership Agile Governance and climate Engagement ( PACE) has organised the enlighten compagn in order provide an overview the recent developments and reforms that occurred in kano state tax system.
The Executive Director compliance and Enforcement at kano internal revenue services KIRS Alhaji Abba Muhammad stated that the kano state internal revenue services has adopted the use of modern digital tax system in generated revenue in all their officers across the state.
He urged the Tax payers to move away from cash based interaction system with the revenue officers that are moving from one place to another to collect revenue in hand, to accept the digitalisation method by using Technology.
He also emphasized that the digital tax system will enable the government to have access to an accurate information,as well as transparency and accountability in tax system.
The new digital tax system is also building the trust between Tax payer, and improved access to government grants and financial support for complain individuals .
According to him , he made mention that, the main duties of kano state internal revenue services (KIRS )is to Accessing, collecting and accounting Taxes from different areas.
He stated that under this new revised system, only individual who earnings more than 800.000 thousand Naira annually are entitled to pay the Tax on the surplus generated income, while the lower generated income are excluded.
According to him, there is also Harmonisation of Tax between states and local government in the new revised system tax that starts work on the first January 2026.which takes away the problem of double taxation that exist in some places.
