The executive governor of Bauchi state Alhaji Bala Muhammad has approved the appointment of brigadier general Marcus Kokko Yake (Rtd) as the first Gung-Zaar of Bauchi.
The development was contained in a statement by Khadija Danladi Hassan Kobi, the information officer Bauchi state ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs on behalf of the state government which was made available to our correspondents NASIRU MUHAMMED WAZIRI.
The statement reads “In line with the provisions of the Zaar Chiefdom Law 2025, the election of the first Gung-Zaar was conducted following the public notice issued by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs calling for the Expression of Interest by interested parties to contest for the Chieftaincy stool.

Seven applications were received, screened and cleared for the contest. The Electoral College as defined by the Law was duly constituted. Three candidates withdrew before the elections while the four others contested.
Following the elections, Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko Yake ((Rtd) emerged as the winner. His election will consequently be presented to the Governor for approval and formal appointment as the first Gung-Zaar of the Zaar Chiefdom.
