We’ll Ensure Accountability in Management for Public Funds — Kano LG Auditor General

The Kano state Auditor General for local government has assured state’s residents of transparency, accountability and inclusiveness in the management of public funds.

Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi disclosed this at the maiden session of Citizens Accountability Report (CAR) for Kano state local government organized by the office of auditor general held in Kaduna.

According to him, the session provides stakeholders with a unique opportunity to reflect how local governments are performing in delivering public services, management of public resources and accountable to the people.

“This report is first of its kind designed for Kano state residents to know how their funds was managed, what are the request forwarded from the local areas to the management of any local government area, how such request was attend. The executive governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has been supporting and urging for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and this is exactly what we are doing”, said Ahmad Tijjani.

“Today marks an important milestone in our collective journey towards transparency, inclusiveness, and good governance at the grassroots level. This session provides us with a unique opportunity to reflect on how our local governments are performing in delivering public services, managing public resources, and most importantly, remaining accountable to the people they serve”, said Tijjani.

He said “the CAR is not just an assessment document; it is a mirror reflecting how governance impacts the daily lives of our citizens to actively participate in governance, to ask questions, and to contribute meaningfully to development process in their communities”.

“I must express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State Eng. Abba Kabir Yusuf for granting approval of funds for the conduct of the first session of CAR for Local Governments and more so, for ensuring that Local Government Councils in the State are fitting in for all the Public Financial Management Reforms”, said auditor general.

He commended all stakeholders-Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning & Budget, Ministry for Local Governments, LG officials, civil society organizations and others for their commitment to transparency and accountability.

He encourage open discussions, constructive feedback, and innovative ideas that can help improve local governance.
