Kano Inaugurates State Steering Committee on Education Quality Assurance

The Kano State Ministry of Education has inaugurated a State Steering Committee on Education Quality Assurance, following the approval for its establishment after the constitution of the National Steering Committee on Education Quality Assurance.

Inaugurating the committee, the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Gwani Dr Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, described the development as a significant step that reflects the Kano State Government’s collective commitment to strengthening coordination, ensuring policy alignment, and promoting strategic planning for quality assurance in education across the state.

The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, noted that the establishment of the committee further demonstrates the state’s resolve to build a strong and credible education system that meets national standards while effectively responding to local realities.

Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, the Director Public Enlightenment, Kano state Ministry of Education in a statement said disclosed that Kano State currently has a total of 7,331 Early Childhood and Primary Schools, 1,431 Junior Secondary Schools, and 849 Senior Secondary Schools, figures that exceed those of many states in the federation. According to him, this places Kano State in a strategic position to lead in education quality assurance, given the scale and diversity of its education system.

The Commissioner explained that the State Steering Committee is expected to provide strategic oversight, coordinate quality assurance activities, align state initiatives with the national framework, and support continuous improvement across all levels of education. He added that the committee will also serve as a platform for collaboration among relevant ministries, agencies, development partners, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.

Addressing members of the committee, the Commissioner stated that their appointment reflects confidence in their capacity, expertise, and experience. He urged them to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, commitment, and a strong sense of purpose.

“The success of this committee will contribute significantly to improving educational outcomes and restoring public confidence in our education system,” he said.

The Commissioner assured the committee of the Kano State Government’s full support in ensuring the successful execution of its mandate.
