The government of Kano State has rolled out four major education policies aimed at strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and expanding access to quality education across the state.

The policies were presented during a two-day stakeholders’ workshop by Kano state commissioner for Education Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda bringing together policymakers, education administrators, development partners, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for improving the planning, financing, and implementation of education programmes in the state.

One of the key policies introduced at the workshop is the Kano State Teacher Development Policy, designed to strengthen teacher recruitment, professional development, continuous training, and performance management.

Education experts at the event emphasized that teachers remain the foundation of an effective education system, noting that improving the quality of teaching is critical to achieving better learning outcomes for students across the state.

Another major policy rolled out is the Kano State Girls’ Education Policy, which seeks to address challenges that prevent girls from accessing and completing education.

The policy reflects the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and ensuring that girls have equal opportunities to benefit from education.

Participants at the workshop were also introduced to the Kano State Non-State Schools Policy, which acknowledges the growing role played by private and other non-state education providers in expanding access to education.

Officials noted that with the increasing number of non-state schools in Kano, the policy provides a framework for effective collaboration, proper regulation, and the maintenance of quality standards in the education sector.

In addition, the state government presented the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy, aimed at ensuring that the education system responds to the needs of girls, children with disabilities, vulnerable children, and other marginalized groups.

The policy seeks to promote inclusive education, ensuring that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to access and benefit from quality learning.

Stakeholders at the workshop described the rollout of the four policies as a major step toward reforming the education sector in Kano State, noting that their implementation will contribute significantly to improving access, equity, and quality in education across the state.
