The Kwankwasiyya Movement has formally directed its members across Nigeria to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, disclosed that the National Leader of the movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has concluded arrangements to officially join the ADC, a party currently linked with a broader coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, Kwankwaso is scheduled to formally register with the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence, Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano, by 12 noon.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform all its members across Nigeria and the general public that our Supreme Leader… has concluded all necessary arrangements to join the African Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
The Movement further directed all its members to immediately proceed to register with the ADC in their respective wards, local government areas, and states, urging them to actively participate in the party’s activities.
The statement described the move as a strategic decision taken in the best interest of the movement, Kano State, and Nigeria, emphasizing its commitment to democratic values, good governance, and national development.
“Democracy must be protected, and the will of the people must always be respected,” the spokesperson added, noting that the movement remains united and resolute in its mission.
Political observers say the development signals a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in Kano State, where the Kwankwasiyya Movement commands a strong grassroots following.
The directive is expected to reshape party alignments and influence coalition dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections, as stakeholders closely monitor the implications of Kwankwaso’s anticipated move to the ADC.
