The Kano State Government, through the Kano State Ministry of Education, has convened a high-level two-day collaboration and input-sharing workshop bringing together Local Government Councils and key education agencies to strengthen coordination and accelerate reforms across Kano State.

The workshop, held in two batches to ensure full participation of all 44 Local Government Areas, featured Batch ‘A’ from April 18–19, 2026, comprising 22 Local Government Chairpersons, their Education Secretaries, Executive Secretaries, and Directors of agencies under the ministry.

Batch ‘B’, which included the remaining 22 Local Government Chairpersons and stakeholders, was scheduled for April 20–21, 2026.

The Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, who was present throughout the sessions, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every resident of Kano State has access to quality education.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between state and local authorities to improve service delivery and sustain educational development.

A major highlight of the workshop was a comprehensive presentation by the Chairman of the organizing committee and Executive Secretary of the Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB), Professor Dahiru Sale Mohammed, who outlined significant achievements recorded within the past year.

He revealed that the state government had undertaken the complete rehabilitation of key institutions, including Government Technical College Dambatta, Government Technical College Ungogo, Government Technical College Kano, and Day Science College Kano, among others. These interventions, he said, are aimed at revitalizing infrastructure, improving learning conditions, and enhancing technical capacity among students.

Professor Dahiru also underscored the growing importance of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria, noting that Kano State has fully aligned with the initiative under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He explained that TVET remains central to addressing youth unemployment, skills gaps, and economic productivity, adding that Kano’s reforms such as transforming technical colleges into production and maintenance centres and integrating modern, practical training are in line with national objectives.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to review ongoing policies, share inputs, and harmonize strategies aimed at improving education delivery at the grassroots level. Participants engaged in discussions on challenges, innovations, and best practices necessary for strengthening the sector.

Experts say the initiative reflects a deliberate effort by the Kano State Government to build synergy between state agencies and local councils, ensuring that reforms are effectively implemented across all communities.

With strong political will, increased investment, and alignment with national programmes like TVET, Kano continues to position itself as a leading force in education reform and skills development in Nigeria.
