The former Secretary to the Kano state government, Alhaji Sule Yahaya Hamma, has warned aspirants seeking election into the House of Representatives for the Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency in Kano State against inflammatory rhetoric, insults and personal attacks on political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hamma, who holds the traditional title of Dokajin Sokoto, gave the warning on Saturday, while chairing a town hall meeting organised by the Garko Youth Progressive Movement (GYPM) at his residence in Garko Local Government Area.
The meeting brought together eight aspirants from different political parties to present their manifestos, outline their development priorities and explain how they intend to address the challenges facing the constituency if elected.

Hamma urged the aspirants to embrace issue-based campaigns, stressing that political competition should focus on policies, ideas and practical solutions rather than derogatory remarks, inflammatory statements or attempts to discredit opponents.
He also cautioned them against using dangerous weapons to attack political opponents, emphasising that the quest for elective office should not threaten peace, unity and peaceful coexistence among residents of Wudil and Garko local government areas.
The elder statesman said the 2027 general elections should provide an opportunity for constructive political engagement, urging the aspirants to demonstrate their capacity for leadership by presenting credible plans to address the needs of the electorate.
According to him, candidates should be judged by the quality of their manifestos, their understanding of the constituency’s challenges and their commitment to delivering meaningful development, rather than their ability to attack political opponents.
Hamma noted that town hall meetings of this nature should have been organised long ago to enable aspirants to publicly present their visions, missions and development blueprints before the commencement of intense electioneering activities.
He stressed that manifesto presentations should not be treated as mere political formalities but as opportunities for candidates to explain their priorities, implementation strategies and expected benefits to the people.
The former SSG further reminded the aspirants that the electorate would hold them accountable for promises made during their campaigns, urging them to make realistic commitments that could be assessed after the election.
He also appealed to whoever emerges victorious to carry other contestants along, irrespective of their political affiliations, for the collective development of the constituency.
Hamma maintained that political differences should not prevent cooperation after the elections, insisting that the interests of the people must take precedence over partisan considerations.
In his remarks, the District Head of Garko, Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Sudan, commended the aspirants for presenting their manifestos without resorting to personal attacks, derogatory language or inflammatory statements against one another.
Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere of mutual respect and peaceful engagement at the meeting, noting that the conduct of the aspirants demonstrated the importance of allowing political competition to focus on ideas and development proposals.
He encouraged political stakeholders to sustain the spirit of tolerance and constructive engagement as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
Speaking on the rationale behind the gathering, the Acting Chairman of GYPM, Anas Ibrahim Nabaffa, said the movement organised the town hall meeting to provide a common platform for politicians seeking elective offices to present their manifestos directly to the electorate.
Nabaffa explained that the initiative was intended to enable residents to understand the candidates’ programmes, assess their priorities and make informed decisions during the elections.
He said GYPM remained committed to bringing together politicians, professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting Garko Local Government Area and identify practical solutions to them.
According to him, the movement believes that dialogue, collective participation and the exchange of ideas are essential to promoting development beyond political and partisan divisions.
