The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) says it has so per renovated 1,228 secondary School in different local government area of Kano state.
Also, all arrangements have been completed for the successful Take-off construction of three houndred (300) others in the state.
AGILE Project Coordinator (PC) in Kano Alhaji Nasiru Abdullahi Kwalli disclosed this while paying a courtesy visit to Kano state Commissioner of information Bala Halilu Dantiye in his office on Friday.
Halima Sadiya Tukur, the head of Media and Public Relations Component at the project who spoke on behalf of Kwalli said the construction of the 300 school tagged (large grant) will focused on local government areas in Kano who either have insufficient schools or lack the school at all.
According to her, the project is aimed at improving the secondary School Education opportunities among girls in targeted State in Nigeria.
She said there are three major components and under each sub-components were attached to them which are concerned with one activity or the other all of which were design to work together in improving secondary School education including:
COMPONENT 1.1: Which is concerned with construction of new secondary schools in areas that have insufficient schools as a result of which girls dropped out of school before completion stage adding that 130 both Junior and senior secondary School would constructed in 24 Local government areas in Kano state (75 junior and 55 Senior Secondary School for Girls only) and all necessary arrangements have been completed and construction will soon start.
The second sub-components is concerned with renovations of already existing structures, and under it all public secondary schools in Kano will benefits from one projects or the other
Also, “we have what we call large grant and under it 300 schools would benefit from lt.
There is also special grant (at this grant, 100 million Naira would be given to each benefiting school for her total renovation).
THE SECOND COMPONENT 2.1 This component in concerned with communication, Advocacy and engagement of key stakeholders so that to intimate the society about the activities of the project in the state.
Also, there is sub-component 2.2A whichi is LIFE SKILLS and it is concerned with teaching the girls on how to take care of themselves, Personnel hygiene and so on. (This were we have issues that some civil society were not happy with what is in the manual, issues were raised and the state government promptly assembled a committee which invite all stakeholders on education and the manual were reviewed from first to last page and necessary corrections were made and very soon a clean copy will be communicated to the stakeholders for proper implementation of the part of the project).
Sub-component 2.2B whichi is DIGITAL SKILLS and this component in concerned with aquenting girls and boys computer skills and use it to their advantage in schools and in other businesses.
Also, sub-component 2.2C whichi is SECOND CHANCE EDUCATION which is concerned with bringing back girls to secondary school who fied that their chance on acquiring secondary school Education is over.

We also have component 2.3 CONDITIONAL CASH TRANSFER which is concerned with giving financial assistance to girls in nineteen (19) local government which has low transition rate and high poverty rate. So per we have registered over seventy (70,000) thousand girls and now they are currently benefiting the financial assistance and more would be enrolled soon.
COMPONENT 3.1 SYSTEM STRENGTHENING of the project aimed at sustainability of the system in the state.
Component 3.2 MONITORING AND EVALUATION which is monitoring and evaluating the impact of the project in the state.
In a remark, the Commissioner has reaffirms his ministry’s commitment to supporting AGILE emphasizing the state government’s keen interest in the project, citing its significance in advancing education within the state.
He highlighted that governor Abba Kabir’s administration has allocated N930,000,000 as project counter funding upon assuming office, underlining the project’s priority.
On encouraging vigilance, the commissioner urged thorough scrutiny of any documents to align with the state’s religious, normative, and cultural values, aiming to dispel any misconceptions regarding the project’s objectives.
Dantiye emphasized the present administration’s focus on education, allocating 30 percent of the 2024 budget to the sector.
“Furthermore, the government has procured and distributed teaching and learning materials worth N900,000,000 and distributed to schools in the state.
