The management of kano state Hospitals Management Board (HMB) have refuted the story making arounds that a baby born at Waziri Shehu Gidado General Hospital was stolen under the care of the facility.
In a statement signed and sent to GLOBAL TRACKER by the public relations officer of Kano state Hospital Management board Samira Suleiman said the mother of the baby went on admission with the baby and his grandmother as the caretaker of the patient who was solely responsible for looking after the baby.
According to her on Friday the the 19th of January 2024 the grandmother of the child was holding the child out the ward decided to go and pray, in which a lady sitting next to her offered to hold the child for her. The grandmother didn’t hesitate and gave the child to the lady.

After offering her prayers, the grandmother came to take the baby that was when she noticed that the lady was not sitted where she left her and was no where to be found either. The baby in question was stolen from the facility between 6:30 and 7:30pm.
She said it was at this juncture that the grandmother raised an alarm which prompted the attention of all the management, staff of the facility on duty and immediately searching began to see if they could find the lady.
The facility is a large facility which sees more than 300 patients a day, some with babies who comes in as patients or patient relatives.
The hospital image maker said it is paramount for people to understand that this is an act of negligence from the caretaker’s side not the hospital.
The hospital intervened in searching for the missing child as part of its responsibility for aiding the helpless parents and for the fact that the baby was stolen in the facility.
“We call on everyone publicising the story to verify and have facts before swinging into action of spreading unverified information in order not to instill fear in the minds of the patient who visit the facility on regular basis,” she added.
