Bayero University Kano is to award Honorary Doctorate Degrees to the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin, and the President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adeshina during its 38th convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 2nd March 2024.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas disclosed while briefing the newsmen on the preparations for the forthcoming Convocation.
He said the decision to honor the awardees was aimed at Complementing their efforts in supporting their community and the Nation at large.

Prof. Abbas said during the convocation, scheduled to begin on the 27th of February, 180 students would graduate with First Class Honors.
“During the convocation ceremony no fewer than 180 students will graduate with first-class degrees.
“Similarly, during the convocation, 370 postgraduate students will be graduating with PhDs and 3,770 others are going out with Masters Degrees,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that this year the university is introducing a start convocation to ensure that every student feels the impact of his graduation.
He maintained that this year the university is graduating a total of 11, 284 students that cut across different faculties and departments.
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that African business mogul, Aliko Dangote would deliver a lecture titled:The Role of Private Sector in Building a Sustainable Economy in Nigeria.

Prof. Sagir said that the university currently has 379 Professors, with 18 Faculties and 16 Research Centers.
He noted that the university had a Breakthrough in research on the sex of date seed, which has increased the farming capacity of the dates in Jigawa State from 45 percent to almost 80 percent.
“We also recorded a breakthrough in the E-Motive at the Centre of Excellence, Africa Centre of Excellence – Population and Policies, ACE-PAP. It saved 60 percent of maternal mortality”
BUK is now ranked 5th in Nigeria based on a ranking body based in the UK. It ranked fifth after Covenant University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and Ekiti, all based in the South West. So, by this, BUK is leading in five other regions, South East, South South, North West, North East, and North Central.
