The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says with the ongoing 50 clashes across the continent, African accounts for roughly 40% of the global armed conflicts.
ICRC’s vice president Gilles Carbonnier said the figure shows an increase of 45% conflicts in Africa since 2020.
“We now have more than 50 active armed conflict situations in Africa,” said Gilles.

“The humanitarian consequences are truly dramatic, because we have some 35 million people displaced due to these conflicts in African countries, and this represents almost half of the displaced people in the world,” Carbonnier said.
Meanwhile, the ICRC’s vice president has decried his dismay for declined in funding of humanitarian organizations due to massive pay cuts by the united states of America.
“This forces us to make very painful choices, where we must reduce, or even cease, some of our operations to prioritise others,” Carbonnier said.
