The Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado arrived at the White House today for a high-profile meeting with United States President Donald Trump, underscoring escalating U.S. involvement in Venezuela’s political future following the dramatic ouster of Nicolás Maduro earlier this month.
Machado who is the longtime opponent of the Maduro government and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate held talks with Trump as Washington seeks to define its role in Venezuela after US forces captured Maduro and his wife in a military operation and brought them to the United States to face trial on federal charges.
The meeting, is reportedly taking place over lunch at the White House, and is expected to focus on Venezuela’s political transition, restoration of democratic institutions, and U.S. interests in the oil-rich nation.

Despite her prominence within the opposition, Trump has previously expressed doubts about Machado’s leadership credentials, saying she lacks broad domestic support even as his government engages with her on Venezuela’s future governance.
Machado’s visit comes at a complex moment while the White House seeks to influence Venezuela’s next chapter, it has also opened channels with acting president Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s former vice-president, highlighting Washington’s delicate diplomatic balancing act.
