The Faruruwa Neighborhood Security and Development Committee, under Shannon Local Government Area, has appealed to the Federal Government and the Kano State Government to take swift and decisive action to protect communities in the area from recurring bandit attacks.
The appeal was made during the committee’s press conference held in Faruruwa, following two consecutive attacks on villages within the council area.
The most recent incidents occurred on October 21 and 22, 2025, claiming the life of one person and resulting in the loss of dozens of livestock.
He said there has been of and on attack on in the area since 2022.
According to the committee, the most affected communities include Kururuwa, Faruruwa, Goron Dutse, Yanganau, all within Shannon Local Government Area.
Speaking at the press briefing, the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Yahaya Umar Bagobiri, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene urgently and deploy security operatives to the troubled communities.
“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come to our rescue. Our people are living in fear. These attacks are becoming frequent, and if nothing is done, they may spread to other parts of the state,” Bagobiri lamented.
He also appealed to the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to take proactive measures to prevent further escalation of the security crisis, stressing that community members have been left vulnerable and traumatized, he said the current insecurity would not be unconnected to the recent reconciliation between neighboring Katsina state and the bandit.
In the same vein, the chairman urged the Member Representing Tsanyawa/Shanono Federal Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Ahmad Badau, to raise the matter before the National Assembly and push for security reinforcement in the affected communities.
An eyewitness, Ibrahim Sani Yankwada from Faruruwa, narrated that the assailants invaded the village around 4:00 p.m. on October 22 and operated freely until 8:00 p.m., carting away over 40 cows after having previously snatched about 50 cows during the earlier attack.
“They came on motorcycles, fully armed, and went from house to house collecting animals. No security presence was seen until after they had left,” Yankwada recounted.
Officials present at the meeting included Alhaji Yahaya Umar Bagobiri (Chairman), Isiyaku Umar (Secretary), Village Head of Faruruwa, Mujitafa Abubakar, and Village Head of Kuraku, Barrister Bambo Abdulsalam, among others.
The committee reiterated its commitment to working with local authorities and security agencies to strengthen community vigilance while awaiting concrete government intervention.
