The Kano-based association of young social media users, particularly those active on Facebook, held its annual conference on Sunday with the participation of youths from various parts of the state.

In an interview, the chairman of the association, Malam Isma’il Lamido, said the gathering was the fourth edition of the event organized by the group. According to him, this year’s conference focused on strengthening community unity and promoting peace through the responsible use of social media platforms.

The event was held under the theme “How Security Agencies, Media, Lawyers and NGOs Can Shape Safer, Focused and United Communities.”

The conference attracted representatives from several institutions and organizations. Among them were officials from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), represented by the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was represented by ASN Sadik Maigatari.

Other speakers and participants included Special Assistant to the President on Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, lawyer Abba Hikima, journalist Aliyu Dahiru, and youth activist Zainab Nasir Ahmad, who shared perspectives on how collaboration among institutions and citizens can help build safer and more united communities.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, commended the youths for organizing the conference. He also advised young people to be mindful of the language they use when responding to issues on social media platforms.

He emphasized that young people are the foundation of society and the leaders of tomorrow, noting that what they say or write online could either contribute positively to their future or become an obstacle to their progress.

The governor’s representative concluded by assuring the youths of the state government’s support for initiatives that promote unity and peace, while encouraging them to continue organizing such forums to support both the community and the government.
